ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS & NETWORK SERVICES

The data and voice department at UMMS provides mission-critical solutions and services to support one of the largest data/voice networks in the greater Baltimore region. With miles of copper and fiber cabling to maintain, millions of square feet to cover wirelessly, and ensuring a mix of Unified Communications, dial tone to over 25,000 phones/telephony related devices, the department is supported by three teams – design/architect, operations, and QA. Each team has a mission excel and is empowered to provide best in class services while learning and having a little fun too.

WHAT WE DO

Depending on the role and experience of the candidate, a typical day in the department for junior and mid-level engineers entails solving issues assigned through the IT service delivery system, working with customers to answer questions and fulfill customer requests, and configuration or administration of the various technologies in the department. In addition, engineers will participate in go-live activities for key projects and initiatives. Senior engineers will also design systems and solutions to meet the business and clinical objectives of the organization.

“I discovered how family oriented the health staffers are with all of the UMMS entities and with each other. The community-based projects, the employee recognitions that are posted for all to see, the employee incentives, etc. I assumed that healthcare was just strictly focused on patients and their families, but I now know that they also focus on the staffers and their families as well. I love it.”
