Harbor City Unlimited is an Adult Psych Rehab Program staffed by rehabilitation counselors, and managed by a highly experienced occupational therapist. As a community program in SW Baltimore this is a non-traditional setting anchored in the Recovery Model. The program is part of the Division of Community Psychiatry at University of Maryland Medical Center. 

Our clients are seen both onsite and in the community, individually and in groups, with an emphasis on living skills, behavioral management and developing independence. An occupational therapist in this position will be leading groups and working individually with clients, performing ADL and cognitive assessments, and planning client events. Excel and basic data management skills are desirable. 

Organizational and collaborative skills, interpersonal aptitude and creativity are key to this position – and a sense of fun is strongly preferred. 

Whether a new grad or an experienced clinician, we are looking for lively candidates who have both knowledge of psychiatry and enthusiasm for clients with mental health challenges.

Job Description

General Summary

Deliver occupational therapy services through evaluation of patient needs, goal determination, and development of treatment plans according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  •  Performs direct occupational therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted occupational therapy standards, Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, code of ethics, and departmental policies and procedures.
  •  Records patient evaluations, re-evaluations and care provided in the medical record, in accordance with departmental documentation standards.
  •  Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner. Proposes performance improvement topics and alternate treatment techniques to improve occupational therapy services.\
  • Assumes responsibility to resolve or report clinical and operational issues to department leadership for resolution, in order to assure high quality care, and efficient departmental operations.
  • Demonstrates interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care and delivers excellent customer service.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Current licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Maryland is required.
  • One (1) year of related experience preferred.
  • Current ACLS or BCLS certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice techniques. General knowledge of orthopedics, plastics, pediatrics, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, anatomy physiology, kinesiology, general medicine and the occupational therapy treatment implications of each.
  •  Knowledge of Rehabilitation equipment, such as, work simulator, fluidotherapy, paraffin bath, hydroculator, and other therapeutic equipment is required.
