Job Description

Please see the job tasks below for the Transitional Care Clinic Medical Assistant Role:

 

1. Escorts patients to rooms, takes and records accurate history (if needed) and vitals in the appropriate medical record. Promptly reports changes or abnormalities to Physician/Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.

2. Assists Physician/Nurse/Practitioner/Physician Assistant with examinations, assists with procedures as requested. Perform venipuncture as needed.

3. Cleans exam rooms and maintains equipment by proper cleaning and care per OSHA guidelines. Keeps exam rooms properly stocked with medical supplies, laboratory supplies, forms, and other materials needed.

4. Triages phone calls, documents information from patients via telephone, and translates information to physicians for response. Places return calls as directed by physicians.

5. Calls pharmacies to refill prescriptions under the direction of a physician.

6. Assists individuals who have difficulty in moving or walking safely using appropriate body mechanics.

7. Performs lab procedures with competence and adherence to protocol for quality control and actual testing. Provides appropriate instruction on specimen collection to patient.

8. Explains procedures to patients, answers questions appropriately or refers the person to the appropriate team member.

9. Complies with established departmental policies for attendance, punctuality, procedures, and safety. Complies with organizational policies and procedures.

10. Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.

11. Performs other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.

12. Maintains adequate CPR.

13. Assist with front office duties as needed, including but not limited to, telephones, filing, scheduling, patient phone calls, chart preparation, etc.

14. Maintains high personal standards for customer satisfaction, productivity, learning, cooperation, responsiveness, communication and optimism.

15. Participates in performance improvement/Culture of Excellence activities to improve service and interdepartmental communications.

16. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Care Managers with patient care, performing appropriate procedures, and preparing rooms & equipment. The MA is also responsible for maintaining records, assisting with front-office activities as available, and interacting in a professional, friendly manner with patients & family members, physicians, staff, and visitors.

 

Education & Training: High school diploma or GED required.  Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program and certification from The American Association of Medical Assistants or other certifying bodies highly preferred.  Prior experience will be taken into consideration in lieu of Medical Assistant degree and certification.  CPR certification required.

 

Work Orientation & Experience: One year experience in a medical office setting, to include Phlebotomy experience, required. EMR experience preferred.
