Job Description

SUMMARY:     

Under limited supervision, provides technical and administrative assistance to the Department of Case Management Services.  The position is an active participant in the utilization review / case management / discharge planning processes. This position requires exceptional interpersonal communication skills in dealing with both internal and external customers, face to face, telephonically and through written communications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

To qualify for the position, the candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years’ experience in Utilization Management, Quality Management, Medical Records or clerical experience in a health care field is preferred.  Knowledge of healthcare insurance preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs within multiple schedules
  • Demonstrated professional telephone skills.
  • The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

The ability to communicate effectively and positively both written and verbally with staff, physicians, other hospital personnel, external reviewers payors, patients, families and the general public is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

Ability to perform basic math functions required for spreadsheet calculations.

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines and needs of multiple staff members, payers and government agencies.  Ability to use proper professional judgment within the scope of the position.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

Microsoft Office certification preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing this job, the individual will work in confined areas.  The job requires sitting approximately 80% of the time; requires walking and standing 20% of the time.  The job requires visual and auditory acuity and ability to orally communicate.  Must be able to lift and carry patient charts, files and other objects verifying up to 20 lbs.  The job requires pushing, pulling, bending and reaching.  There is a potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials.
