UMMC Midtown Campus, one of two campuses of the University of Maryland Medical Center, has had a long history of working to keep our community healthy and has grown to become a trusted teaching hospital for medical and surgical care in Baltimore City.
Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital with a focus on helping people manage chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.
Main Function
This UMMC Midtown Campus residency will allow an individual to observe, learn and perform as an actual member of the Executive Team. The position requires involvement in strategic planning, service line marketing, marketing and business development projects. He/she will have the opportunity to work on and lead projects at UMMC Midtown Campus and system hospitals.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Observe executive leaders in decision-making meetings, project meetings and strategy review sessions.
- Learn new skills in business plan development, new program development, marketing plan development and financial feasibility studies.
- Perform strategic analysis to support the implementation of new programs, new faculty, recruitment and clinical program reviews.
- Contribute towards the strategic development of UMMC Midtown Campus as a member of the Business Development Committee and Ambulatory Strategic Planning Committee(s).
- Proposed areas of learning include:
- Surgical program development
- Population health initiatives
- Ambulatory service line planning
- HER implementation and optimization for inpatient and ambulatory services
- Proposed areas of learning include:
- Gain exposure to the University of Maryland Medical System corporate structure by attending system wide planning meeting(s).
- Develop project management skills through aiding the implementation of process improvement initiatives.
- Perform strategic analyses to support the feasibility and return on investment of new programs, new faculty recruitment, and clinical reviews, including supporting the implementation of those approved.
Education
2nd year Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Master of Health Administration student.
Experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with the use of Access, Excel, WordPerfect, PowerPoint, or other spreadsheet and graphics software applications required.
- Strong research skills including conducting research using the internet and other on-line library services.
- Ability to collect, design and interpret data, and prepare professional text reports and graphic presentations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and problem solving skills are required to work successfully with diverse staff members throughout the organization.
