As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injury, among many others.
General Summary
- Electronic/Paper documentation- Assures accurate and concise entry of patient care delivery along the continuum Guides staff in documenting/entering data correctly in the medical record/EMR as verified by chart review. Completes required training on electronic documentation.
- Team Leadership- Uses interpersonal and clinical skills to foster the concepts of team collaboration and team unity. Develops communication skills to enhance networking with other clinical staff. Encourages and empowers the staff toward professional growth despite diversity and personal differences. Uses multiple strategies toward organizational and/or unit change(s) for improvement. Assists the staff toward improving their individual or collective performance and productivity areas for improvement. Enhances professional growth and organizational skills of team members. Demonstrates ability for time management and conflict resolution skills.
- Collection of Specimens – Accurately follows procedural guidelines and uses proper technique(s) to obtain bodily specimen collection for laboratory testing. Completes annual didactic and/or written testing with results kept on file. Incorporates proper techniques for patient identification, method for collection of appropriate specimen(s), and documentation.
- Ventilator Management: Performs ventilator management processes related to role. Attends/assists in training programs related to changes in treatment modalities hospital-wide. Completes annual didactic and /or written testing with results kept on file.
- Medication Management: Performs medication management processes related to role. Attends/assists in training programs related to changes in treatment modalities hospital-wide. Completes annual didactic and /or written testing with results kept on file.
- Airway Management: Performs airway management processes related to role. Attends/assists in training programs related to changes in treatment modalities hospital-wide. Completes annual didactic and /or written testing with results kept on file.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, and specific individual diagnostic needs of the patients served in his/her department. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescents and/or geriatric patient group, culture and diagnostic specific).
- Consistently expresses and demonstrates compassion and courtesy for patients. Extends courtesy and support to patient’s families/visitors.
Education & Experience
- Registry (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.
- Licensure as a Respiratory Care practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- ACLS certification is preferred.
- An Associates degree is required.
- Graduation from an AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy is required. A Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy is preferred.
- Four years experience as a Respiratory Therapist- RRT is required.
- Two years experience in Critical Care is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, biology, microbiology, technical mathematics, and pharmacology are required. Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and operation and use of standard respiratory equipment and supplies, such as, various types of ventilators, nebulizers, aerosol masks, nasal cannulas, and other oxygen delivery devices.
- Knowledge of respiratory diseases and standard treatments in order to assist in training employees. Knowledge of respiratory procedures (auscultation, administration of bronchodilators), respiratory surgical procedures, x-ray and arterial blood gas interpretations, and lab result analysis.
- Knowledge of various life support equipment and its applications.
- Possess basic computer skills and be familiar with Windows applications. May assist in Respiratory Product training and create in-service for other clinicians and inter-disciplines.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Highly effective verbal communication skills including courtesy, resourcefulness and efficiency in answering questions, giving directions, locating staff and explaining hospital/departmental policies and procedures are necessary. Verbal communication skills may include communicating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and families. Effective writing skills are also required in order to take messages and maintain miscellaneous records, receipts, reports and logs.
