With roots that go as far back as 1895, the UM Rehab & Ortho Institute continues to be a pioneer in orthopedics and neurological disorders. From bones to brains, our cutting-edge hospital heals even the most serious of injuries, specializing in everything from total joint replacement to spinal cord injuries and neurological condition. In total, our 141-bed facility welcomes over 3,000 patients every year. As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injury, among many others.
I. General Summary
Under general direction, provides administrative management and direction to the Case Management/Utilization Review department. Establishes goals, objectives and standards of performance. Develops and implements operating policies and procedures; interprets and ensures compliance with policies, quality standards, regulations, and code established by the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI) as they relate to Case Management and Utilization Review.
II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

- Technological Transformation- Uses change management skills to align new technologies with the organization’s culture and needs of key stakeholders. Considers work structure, job design, educational needs and other necessary resources during integration. Utilizes technology to achieve optimal organizational performance.

III. Education & Experience
- RN licensure in the State of Maryland or Compact License is required.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible professional experience in Utilization Review/Case
- Management is required, plus a minimum of four years supervisory experience is required. Experience with budget management is required.
IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies and third-party guidelines and codes is required.
- General knowledge of PC and data management and word processing software packages for use in developing various departmental reports is required.
- High level of proficiency in directing, monitoring, evaluating and motivating the performance of professional staff is required.
