Medical Laboratory Scientist III, Evenings – Core Lab – 10k Sign on Bonus

$10,000 Sign on Bonus applies to non University of Maryland Medical System employees

Under limited supervision, performs complex analyses on a variety of sample types, utilizing independent judgment to generate acceptable test results. Performs as lead by managing workflow, mentoring others and serving as clinical resource.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  1. Independently performs all responsibilities of MLS I and MLS II.
  2. Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives as a member of a multi-disciplinary patient care services team. Develops/leads efforts to improve regulatory compliance within and beyond the department.
  3. Assists in the determination of need for development of new services, equipment, instrumentation, tests, assays and procedures.
  4. Participates in orienting new employees at the department level. Trains employees and serves as a mentor, helping others achieve/maintain required competencies.
  5. Responsible for regulatory & accreditation agency preparation.
  6. Performs duties as assigned related to the job description.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences or an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences or related field required or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with relevant experience required.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience (bachelor’s degree) preferred; or minimum of 4 years of clinical laboratory experience (Associate in MLT or related field or Military Lab Technician Training program) required.
  3. ASCP or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Evidence of leadership ability
  2. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of clinical laboratory processes, analytical procedures, and various laboratory equipment including routine maintenance and calibration.
  3. Ability to perform advanced computer skills which would be used in a laboratory setting.
  4. Highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written computer skills are required. Individual must be able to effectively apply these skills to various healthcare environments.
  5. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
