With roots that go as far back as 1895, the UM Rehab & Ortho Institute continues to be a pioneer in orthopedics and neurological disorders. From bones to brains, our cutting-edge hospital heals even the most serious of injuries, specializing in everything from total joint replacement to spinal cord injuries and neurological condition. In total, our 141-bed facility welcomes over 3,000 patients every year. As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injury, among many others.
Under general supervision, coordinates the employment process and retention/ advancement services for the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute’s (UM Rehab & Ortho) identified positions. Ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate competency in program coordination, compassion and dedication to the community. The focus of the work is to reduce disparities in health, education and employment that can impact the workforce.
- Develops and implements recruitment strategies for support positions assuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, UM Rehab & Ortho policies and procedures, and UM Rehab & Ortho Vision, Mission, and Values.
- Partners with the hiring manager to formulate a recruitment strategy to fill vacancies in a timely and cost efficient manner. Develops innovative recruitment plans that will proactively meet the needs of the hiring manager.
- Communicates regularly (at least weekly) with all hiring managers to ensure effectiveness of recruitment strategy(s).
- Interviews, screens, and refers qualified applicants for open positions of all levels.
- Serves as a coach and advisor to team members who are seeking advancement in their career by helping them to identify and reach their career goals.
- Coordinates career transition training designed to help participants develop a career change strategy.
- Connects current team members to training programs and job advancement opportunities designed to meet workforce demands.
- Assists program participants with identifying and removing barriers to success.
- Design and implement employment initiatives and community outreach, particularly in low-income and diverse communities.
- Regularly conduct community outreach in communities around West Baltimore in collaboration with Community Engagement team members and also present information about community engagement initiatives and workforce programs to partner organizations.
- Serves on workforce & community partnership committees, such as the Baltimore Youth Council.
- Design, coordinate and deliver trainings on professional development topics and workforce development training.
- Compile data for special projects or reports, as assigned, ensuring completion by specified deadlines and in accordance with established goals and objectives
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Resources, Organization Development, Business Administration, or a related area of study is required.
- Five years of professional program coordination, career counseling or recruiting experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Organizational, record keeping and time management skills required.
- Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word and other database software required.
- Counseling skills, educational instruction experience and case management experience.
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills are required to work effectively with various levels of team members and management staff.
- Highly effective communication skills are necessary to work with all levels of management, various personnel within UM Rehab & Ortho, as well as the external community.
