Start your Nursing Career at The University of Maryland Capital Region (UMCAP). We are invested in your successful transition from nursing student to professional nurse. Our UMCAP Nurse Residency Program (NRP) is a 12-month dynamic & innovative program designed for New Graduate Nurses. Our program provides robust structure and support for your acquisition of foundational skills that will support your nursing career.
We provide:
- Standardized training plans for all specialty units
- Monthly NRP Seminars designed to facilitate your success and professional growth
- Standardized rounding and meaningful feedback to promote engagement, skill development, confidence and resiliency
- The UMCAP NRP provides a comprehensive Nursing Foundations Immersion Program. Our Nursing Foundations Immersion is an intensive 2-week program focuses building confidence in foundational hands-on nursing skills necessary for your successful transition to professional nursing practice. On average, our Boot Camp has increased confidence by 31% across all skill domains.

- Have graduated from an accredited nursing school approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON), AND is in the process of taking the state licensure exam (1st time) or has successfully passed the state licensure exam and has is waiting for license number
- Have graduated from an accredited RN program approved by the MBON AND has an active license number with the MBON or compact
- Have less than one year of professional nursing experience
- BSN preferred but not required to apply
