Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Receives, decontaminates and processes instrumentation and equipment used in the hospital and various outside agencies, as well as the documentation of those processes. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  1. Decontamination of equipment and carts (crash or isolation) returned from the Nursing units.
  2. Retrieving soiled instruments from the Nursing units.
  3. Decontamination of instrumentation received from areas within the hospital and outside agencies.
  4. Made need to float to offsite locations
  5. Ordering of supplies needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
  6. Assemble soft goods for sterilization.
  7. Stock crash cart after use and return to pharmacy.
  8. Run Bowie Dick and biological tests, and record appropriately.
  9. Count, wrap and process instrumentation for sterilization.
  10. Document accurately processing information of loads.
  11. Restock carts as needed to include crash, specialty, etc.
  12. Provide and maintain a clean work environment on a daily basis.
  13. Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by the Charge Nurse to the changing needs of patients and the unit.
  14. Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.
  15. Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.
  16. Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
  17. Offers consistent and visible support to team members.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
  19. Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.
  20. Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Pink (when called), Code Red (when called) and Code Yellow (when called).
  21. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  22. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  23. Responsible for endoscope cleaning as well as stocking of supplies in the scope room
  24. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Certification and/or previous experience are preferred.
  • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
  • He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
