University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute

The Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation Unit provides acute and chronic rehabilitation services for patients who are recovering from medical and surgical conditions such as cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, cancer, amputation, transplants, or elective orthopaedics surgery such as total joint replacement or spinal decompression with neurological impairment. 


UM Rehab & Ortho Institute has more than 100 physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists.

UM Rehab & Ortho offers state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology, including the Vector Elite Gait and Safety System (a robotic trolley system for gait training), the ReWalk exoskeleton (high-tech body suit providing motorized assistance for some paralyzed patients), and Lokomat (a robotic treadmill designed for patients recovering from spinal cord injuries and stroke


What You Will Do:

Independently provides and coordinates individualized patient care consistent with the mission and values of Kernan Hospital and in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. Accountable to patients and families for processes and outcomes during an episode of care. Serves as a fully engaged member of the interdisciplinary patient care services team. Participates in cost effective strategies that optimize patient outcomes.

What You Need to Be Successful:

At least one year of nursing experience that includes recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated effectiveness as an interdisciplinary team member. Ability to learn and apply computer systems in order to manage patient information. BSN, or enrollment in a BSN program, is highly desirable. Certification in area of specialty preferred. Demonstrated effectiveness as an interdisciplinary team member. Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.
