What you Will Do:
Under general supervision by an Assistant Director, Laboratories of Pathology, lead and manage a Business Services Office that provides business support functions in such areas as revenue management, invoicing and collections, accounts payable, compliance and other financial areas. Work with the Assistant Director to establish policies, procedures, standards and objectives for all Laboratories of Pathology business services and coordinates with other departments to provide optimum levels of business support for the Laboratory.
Directs the revenue management processes within the Laboratories of Pathology, to include invoicing and collections, accounts receivable management, suspended and rejected charges.
Ensures all business practices are in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations, policies and standards.
Maintains and updates the Laboratory Chargemasters and regularly update CPT codes, pricing, and RVUs.
In collaboration with other UMMC/UMMS offices, manages the accounts payable process to ensure timely payment of Laboratory invoices. Follows-up on payment issues as needed. Oversees manual posting of charges into billing system.
Manages and maintains the process for all Business Associate Agreements and Client agreements.
Coordinates laboratory internal and external compliance audits, in regards to business processes.
Assists in the preparation of budget and monthly financial reports for funded lab testing services.
Prepares LIS requests to build tests, clients and tests accordingly prior to placing in to production.
Collaborates with the Information Technology group to utilize IT technology and LIS functionality into the business and clinical processes of Laboratories of Pathology.
Oversight of review and resolution of rejected and suspended charges. Assists with Patient Billing and outside agency audits, as needed.
Directs business process redesign at the appropriate organizational level. Works with the Directors and Assistant Directors, Laboratories of Pathology, to achieve this function.
Communicates regularly with various hospital departments to assist in resolving issues of concern, and generally to serve as a resource for information concerning Laboratories of Pathology business services.
Maintains effective communication with the Department of Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, and other departments relating to business, finance, and information systems. Interact with potential outreach clients and assist to determine if outreach account will be established. Assist with determination of Outreach pricing.

What You Need to Be Successful:
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in revenue management, invoicing and collections, accounts payable management and other general financial services required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health care or business related field required. A Master's degree in a related discipline preferred.
Laboratory certification preferred.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles, CPT coding, and hospital billing and compliance is required. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a complex environment and to manage across disciplinary and organizational lines.
Highly effective communication skills are required to interface with various internal and external personnel.
Ability to walk for approximately 30% of time and stand and/or sit for prolonged periods is required.
Knowledge related and relevant to hospital clinical laboratories is expected and this should include clinical laboratory processing. LIS and EPIC knowledge is preferred. .
Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions accurately and to use judgment in decision-making situations.
Ability to organize and prioritize and follow tasks through to completion.
