What You Will Do:

This position is ideal for an ED Nurse who does professional reimbursement coding as part of his/her role, and is looking to transition out of direct patient care and into full-time professional reimbursement coding. 

General Summary

Under limited supervision, applies the facility code based on nursing documentation and identifies supplies utilized for all patients seen in the Emergency Department. Makes recommendation to the nursing staff regarding documentation standards to maximize reimbursement.

  • Identifies appropriate level of care (facility code) charge using level of care criteria and nursing documentation.
  • Posts appropriate facility code and supply charges to the charge form.
  • Consults with nursing staff and Director regarding documentation issues associated with the level of care coding.
  • Supervises chart review and data entry of charges into CIS.
  • Investigates missing charges and reports status to supervisor daily. 
  • Advises Director of any issues impacting operations, and make recommendations for improvement.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland.
  • Two (2) years clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Knowledge of emergency nursing and facility codes is preferred.
