Main Function: Evaluate patient/families, plan and implement individualized treatment programs as appropriate to the age of the patient. Perform associated indirect responsibilities. The work requires good clinical judgment and ability to implement and adjust individualized goals based upon patient progress or change. Performs functions under the immediate supervision of the Therapy Manager. May supervise O.T. students as determined by the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice and the AOTA. Performs specialty services based on certifications achieved, with primary source verification, and/or demonstrated competencies on an annual basis. Duties and Responsibilities: I. ASSESSMENT: o Completes assessment in appropriate time frame according to written departmental standards. o Adapts evaluation techniques depending on individual patient needs. o Assesses individualized teaching needs and applies appropriate teaching techniques to patient/family education/training sessions. o Utilizes assessment data to establish measurable, achievable and functional goals. II. PLANNING o Establishes an individualized plan of care that sets appropriate discharge goals and incorporates ongoing input from the patient, family and interdisciplinary team members. o Anticipates and plans in advance for patient/family discharge needs considering the patient’s physical, cognitive, environmental, socioeconomic and safety needs. III. IMPLEMENTATION o Provides rehabilitation care that encompasses a holistic and interdisciplinary approach for the patient and family. o Communicates and delegates appropriately to clinical support staff to ensure safety of the patient following licensing regulations. o Seeks new knowledge to enhance treatment programs, incorporates this knowledge into treatment programs and shares new knowledge to colleagues for the development of the rehab department. o Independently develops and selects treatment techniques appropriate for the patient and demonstrates the ability to modify or terminate treatment based on the patient’s response. o Reviews medical records obtaining timely orders and contacts the appropriate party as needed concerning questions, clarification or possible conflicts in orders. IV. DOCUMENTATION o Documentation is concise, insightful and timely and in accordance with written rehab department standards. o Documentation includes all basic information consistent with documentation standards so that colleagues are able to replicate treatments. o Documentation is consistently legible and or thorough with all sections addressed in the Meditech forms. o Demonstrates flexibility in quality of documentation to meet changing healthcare reimbursement and regulatory issues. V. MEETS FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS o Initiates modification of schedule to meet all service line coverage needs. o Effectively manages non-billable time to meet department needs and actively seeks out these opportunities. o Completes charges accurately on a daily basis using effective self auditing tools to insure preciseness. o Consistently meets productivity standard. o Demonstrates flexibility in work hours to meet the needs of the various service lines. o Therapist is expected to work one weekend day per month or three weekend days over a three month period. o All PRN therapists are required to work at least one scheduled weekend day per month or one scheduled weekday a month. VI. DEMONSTRATES HIGH STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP o Demonstrates support and compliance with Maryland General Hospital’s mission, vision and values. o Follows guidelines of supervisors and questions directives at appropriate time and/or place, seeks feedback regarding performance and supports department, hospital and management goals. o Demonstrates ability to assess a situation from a variety of perspectives considers alternatives and chooses an appropriate course of action when dealing with all stakeholders. o Active in professional organization as evidenced by attendance at meetings, participation in committees, task forces or through attendance at professional courses. o Recognizes own strengths and weakness by developing and accomplishing yearly professional goals. o Strives to remain current with professional issues and is aware of medical, legal and ethical responsibilities as evidenced by recommendations to staff and management. o Consistently completes assignments within rehab policy written guidelines without reminders, is accountable and responsible for own actions and seeks to assists colleagues as necessary. o Identifies areas for improvement and participates in department improvement process and plan. VII. PEFORMS IN ACCORDANCE WITH HOSPITAL AND DEPARTMENTAL POLICY o Consistently performs all routine daily activities of patients, visitors, other employees and self in a safe manner. Identifies and reports unsafe conditions to supervisor. o Demonstrates a working knowledge of hospital and Rehab Center policy and procedure.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Therapy (Masters degree.) Also required to have either a, state license or eligible. Experience: Preferred
