What You Will Do:

*Must have 2 years of Health Information Management (HIM) experience in a hospital or medical setting**

General Summary
The Release of Information Specialist processes all release of health information/medical records requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. Coordinates medical record reviews, properly assists requestors with access to patient health information (PHI). Utilizes various computer systems and technology to log, track, and process requests. Monitors various system reports related to release of information (ROI). Responds to requests for health information by performing duties in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies, state and federal laws as they pertain to patient confidentiality and HIPAA. Processes incoming and outgoing mail, faxes and emails on a daily basis. Receives and responds to calls to the department and routes them appropriately when necessary.

Reports to Record Management Supervisor

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Two (2) years of health information management experience in a hospital setting or high volume medical setting is required
  • Associate of Arts degree in Health Information Technology is preferred. Specific courses in Health Information Technology desirable. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing Word document applications and healthcare information systems required. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with wide range of individuals and personalities. 
  • Ability to multi-task and learn new equipment and required processes in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, procedures, State, Federal and HIPAA Regulations for Release of Health Information and Confidentiality.
