What You Will Do:

General Summary

The Exercise Technician is responsible for providing and prioritizing therapeutic walks per physician order and secondarily providing patient education and activities of daily living (ADLs)’s when deemed competent.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.  They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  1. Providing and prioritizing therapeutic walks per early mobility program.
  2. Providing patient education and ADL’s when deemed competent
  3. Establish an open line of communication with staff regarding patient condition and performance
  4. In partnership with the clinical team, interprets and utilizes clinical data to provide an individualized daily mobility plan of care.
  5. Adheres to infection control standards
  6. Responds effectively in an emergency situation to address the patient’s immediate needs
  7. Manages a patient’s anticipated or current educational needs in order to meet the needs outlined in the plan of care
  8. Documents patient care following departmental policies and guidelines.


What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience

  1. * 4 year / Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Required)
  2. American Heart Association BLS (CPR) Certification (Required)
  3. Exercise Specialist Cert-ACSM (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors and other healthcare team members to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of patient care
  2. Strong written communication skills
  3. Basic computer skills –ability to learn and navigate the electronic medical record.
  4. Excellent organizational skills
  5. Ability to comply with policies and practices regarding safe handling of patients
  6. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.  Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  7. Ability to learn and teach safe use of appropriate adaptive equipment (including lift use)  to the staff  and to the patient
