What You Will Do:

Sign-On Bonus of $5,000, if eligible

UMMC is seeking a Lab Shift Coordinator in Blood Bank to perform as a lead by managing workflow, mentoring others and serving as a clinical resource.  

The selected candidate, under limited supervision, performs complex analyses on a variety of sample types, utilizing independent judgment to generate acceptable test results.  Ensures that efficient and effective work process use and procedures are followed utilizing regulatory and safety requirements.  Performs patient testing as requested by clinicians and faculty within the Blood Bank.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Sciences, or other related field is required.
  • Certification by a nationally recognized organization, e.g. ASCP or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting is required.
  • A combination of post-graduate education and fewer than the required years of experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Proficient knowledge of laboratory processes, testing and analytical procedures and techniques, and various specialized laboratory equipment.
  2. Working knowledge of word processing and laboratory information systems; experience in laboratory information systems is highly desirable.
  3. Proficient organizational and problem solving skills are required to develop and implement efficient work processes, and to successfully resolve production conflicts. Must be able to develop timelines and milestones for project development.
  4. Evidence of leadership ability (e.g. served as senior technologist designee).
  5. Highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written computer skills are required. Individual must be able to effectively apply these skills to various healthcare environments.
