What You Will Do:

Under the supervision of an RN, assists in the delivery of age specific
patient care, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides
basic nursing care. Maintains a safe and clean environment and promotes the
efficiency of the nursing team. Is actively involved in the therapeutic milieu
and treatment planning. Assists in the preparation of the operating room to
receive the surgical patient. Ensure appropriate instrumentation is present.
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon before and during the surgical
procedure. Supports direct patient care activities by performing clerical and
receptionist functions and communicates with all persons involved in unit
operations. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based
Care, And Shared Leadership.

1. Assumes specific responsibilities of a scrub technologist.
2. In the pre-operative phase prepares the operating room to receive
patient, ensures room, equipment, and supply readiness.
3. In the intra-operative phase assists surgeon in scrub capacity according
to standards and within their designated scope of practice and
anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
4. In the post-operative phase assists in the decontamination of the
operating room, turnover and decontamination of the instrumentation.
5. Strictly adheres to aseptic technique.
6. Receives report on patients and completes patient care assignments
within the time frame designated by the RN. Duties include:
a. Obtaining vital signs.
b. Observes, reports and records patient behaviors, patients'
condition and interactive dynamics.
c. Assisting with the delivery of physical care and hygiene as
d. Clerical duties as assigned by unit management.
e. Answers phones, intercoms, taking and conveying messages
appropriately. Placing calls as directed.
7. Functions cooperatively as a team member, contributing to quality
improvement processes and cost control measures.
8. Communicates in a professional manner, demonstrating respect for
patients/families and other health care members. Promotes patient

Serves as a coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.

15. Responds to the following Shore Regional Health codes in the
immediate area: Code Red, Code Pink (when called), Code Yellow (when
called), Code Green (if instructed), Code Blue and Light Blue (if
instructed) .
16. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and
protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information
which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
17. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of
the employee's knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal
and State laws and regulations.
18. Performs related duties as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective 02/01/2017, all hired for this role must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Meets requirements to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Maryland.
  • Must successfully complete any SRH unit secretary and Nursing Tech required competencies.
  • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
  • He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the necessary care as described in the department's policies and procedures.
