Serves as Joslin Center secretary to include:
? Greeting patients, families, visitors and hospital staff in professional
and pleasant manner.
? Answers and screens telephone calls; communicates messages timely
? Responds to inquiries within scope of authority and knowledge.
Schedules patient appointments and procedures for physicians and educators
Accurately enters billing charges for the day. Makes confirmation Prepares patient charts for next day appointments.
Audits charge sheets daily corrects the discrepancies found.
Works with the billing company on patient denials and manages referrals for patient accounts
Collects and tabulates statistical data for the Operations Manager.
Assists OM with data collection and tabulation for
? Departmental QA
? Hospital PIRM
? Inpatient data collection
? Other special projects as assigned
Instructs patients with regard to appropriate exam preparation as established by department.
Organizes various types of schedules according to departmental procedure.
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital information systems applicable to the
performance of daily job duties.
Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights, as identified
within the institution.
Demonstrates the ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and
employees and the confidentiality of all hospital and departmental documents.
Maintains departmental files and medical records in a neat and orderly fashion.
Works collaboratively with other hospital departments; formulates and maintains
effective working relationships with departmental and hospital staff.
Utilizes appropriate customer relations skills when interacting with patients,
families, visitors, hospital staff, etc. to ensure all customers are treated with
respect and dignity.
Orders and maintains supplies according to par levels for the Joslin Diabetes Center.
Incorporates cost-effective measure into practice to assure proper use of time, supplies and personnel.
Demonstrates ability to be flexible, adjusting to changes necessary for the efficient operation of the Center.
Assures all requested work is completed before tend of assigned shift, willing to stay beyond shift if needed to complete work.
Recognizes when a coworker needs assistance and offers to help.
Offers suggestions to improve the center operations and procedures..
Performs regular duties in an independent manner, seeking guidance when necessary.
High School diploma or equivalent required. One year secretarial experience in a practice environment required.
Previous experience using a business office suite, such as Microsoft Office, is required. Knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
Familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred. Excellent communication skills required, with ability to deal with physicians, patients and peers in a professional and courteous manner.
