Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit:

Our state-of-the-art Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit is dedicated solely to the care of transplant patients and their families. 

Our transplant program is recognized as a Center of Excellence by major health insurance and transplant networks and is accredited by FACT based on rigorous national standards in the field of cellular therapy product transplantation. Our experts are actively engaged in research into new ways to treat patients with cancer, including graft engineering and immunotherapy (using the body's own immune system to fight cancer)

What You Will Do:

We are seeking Registered Nurses (RN) who will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. He/she will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. Independently provides and coordinates care provided to patients within a clinical specialty. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

  • We are a close knit unit who work as a team. 
  • Nurses are viewed as colleagues in our partnership with the medical team with a multi-discipline approach to care.  This includes providing integrated care working with the physicians, social workers, pharmacist and nurse practitioners.  
  • Our patient ratio during the day shift is 3:1.  You will have the opportunity to build relationships with families and many times patients will return to the unit to give updates and say Thank You.  
  • Many of our staff have worked together for more than ten years. 

Duties:

Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice in both care provided and in participation in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction with service and cost effectiveness at the unit level. Is accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care delivery during an episode of care. Is accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.

This role is considered all nurses at UMMC who have greater than 12 months experience. This nurse will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. What You Need to Be Successful:

  • License as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligibility to practice due to compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred; 
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.  Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
