What You Will Do:

Baltimore Washington Medical Center is seeking a Histo Tech to joing our team our laboratory team. 

-Under the supervision of the Pathologists and the Supervisor of Histopathology, The Histologic Technician performs all aspects of tissue testing to include: accessioning, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.  

-The Histologic Technician position requires the ability to multitask and prioritize duties to best serve our clients.  Employee must be able to complete work within established time frames and maintain an expected high level of quality.  

-The Histologic Technician employee must be willing to rotate on-call weekends for frozen sections.  Duties other than stated above may be required by the supervisor.  

-These include but are not limited to:  filing, cleaning and instrument maintenance. 

Working Conditions

The employee will work inside a clean, well-lighted environment with limited space.  They will be subject to frequent interruption throughout the day.  The position is classified as a medium exposure risk for communicable disease and therefore will require the worker to have an annual N95 mask fit test.  There may be exposure to hazardous materials however appropriate personal protective equipment is supplied.  The worker will be required to follow Standard Precautions and safe laboratory practices.  



What You Need to Be Successful:

-Successful completion of CAHEA accredited Histotechnology program, OR Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university in biology, AND one year full time acceptable experience in Histopathology, OR HT (ASCP) registered or eligible. 
-Knowledge of various laboratory instrumentation required. 
-Proficient communication skills required. 
-Ability to read and perform basic mathematical calculations. Prior laboratory experience is preferred.
