What You Will Do:

University of Maryland Midtown Campus is currently seeking a Counselor for Addictions/Chehemica Dependency to join our Addictions team. 


Main Function:
The Chemical Dependency Counselor is an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team who is primarily responsible for evaluating patients and coordinating individual and group counseling toward the goal of patient education regarding Chemical Dependency and relapse prevention.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in program development and improvement in accordance with professional standards and program objectives.
2. Performs individual addictions assessments and screening for inpatients prior to or during treatment as needed.
3. Establishes, coordinates, and conducts educational and individual counseling sessions.
4. Identifies treatment plan goals which are individualized, realistic and measureable.
5. Documents findings of clinical screening, participation in treatments and clinical outcomes in accordance with hospital policies/procedures.
6. Assists and directs the patient in making realistic and therapeutic plans for ongoing care including continuing therapy, transitional housing, and other needs as appropriate.
7. Serves as a resource to program staff in the area of chemical dependency. Serves as liaison to AA/NA meeting coordinators at MGH as indicated.
8. Maintains a safe environment by adhering to organizational safety plans and initiating actions to protect patients and other staff from environmental hazards.
9. Identifies and recommends strategies to improve program efficiency or achieve cost reduction. Actively participates in performance improvement activities including ongoing clinical record review. 1 
10. Attends inservices, conferences, and seminars as appropriate to maintain and improve skills. Demonstrates support and compliance with Maryland General Hospital’s mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives and policies.
11. Performs additional functions to assist the Director of Professional Development and other activities as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education:
  • Associates or Baccalaureate degree in Health or Human services counseling field
  • Statecertification as a drug and alcohol counselor (CAC-AD), (CCDC) OR Alcohol and Drug-Trainee
Experience:
  • At least two (2) years employment in chemical dependency field
  • Two (2) years or 2,000 hours of documented supervised experience in alcohol and drug counseling . At least one (1) year must be after award of degree.
  • Successful completion of the MAPCB ICRC/AODA exam and State Law Test
