The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist, Full Time Evening shift, in the Laboratories of Pathology HLA/ Immunogenetics

About the HLA/Immunogenetics Lab: 

The University of Maryland Medical Center’s (UMMC) Division of Transplantation has a reputation for compassionate care, innovative techniques and surgical excellence.  The UMMC HLA / Immunogenetics Laboratory is the provider of histocompatibility testing for UMMC kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung and stem cell transplant programs.  As one of the busiest transplant centers in the country, and the largest program in Maryland, our team of transplant surgeons perform more than 450 solid organ transplants each year.  

Under direct supervision, performs complex analyses on a variety of sample types. Maintains proper records and utilizes resources to generate acceptable test results.  Functions effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.  Responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of laboratory functions.  Actively learns to troubleshoot and resolve problems and documents corrective actions.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences or related field required.
  2. Must be eligible for certification by a nationally recognized program, e.g. ASCP or equivalent.  Must be certified within 12 months of employment (24 months for IMGL Lab).
  3. Successful completion of NACCLS accredited clinical rotation or at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in an accredited hospital or reference laboratory setting.(preferred for IMGL Lab).
