What You Will Do:

The Cardiac Rehab Therapist II provides assessment, treatment and education to Phase I inpatients and Phase II-IV outpatients to achieve goals of the Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Practice is consistent with AACVPR guidelines. Program goals include the prevention of deleterious effects of bed rest and physical reconditioning; psychological support of the patient and family; needs assessment and education directed toward the understanding and management of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease and risk factors; and development and implementation of an individualized exercise program. This is done via individual or group classes, and in a collaborative manner with other multidisciplinary health team members. Patients served include primarily adult through adult-geriatric.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Nurse: BSN required; Critical care or cardiac rehabilitation experience preferred. Must possess current Maryland State license. Exercise Physiologist: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology required (Master’s preferred); Experience in cardiac rehabilitation preferred. One year recent experience in a clinical setting (i.e. cardiac rehab program) as evidenced by clinical experience in: performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, knowledge of emergency procedures, knowledge of common ECG and BP monitoring techniques and application, recognition of arrhythmias and appropriate emergency intervention, technical performance of a standard 12 lead ECG, completion of the arrhythmias course or its equivalent. ACLS certification required. Previous experience using a business office suite, such as Microsoft Office, is required. Membership in AACVPR encouraged; ASCM Certification as an exercise specialist encouraged. Meets departmental specific required competencies. The Cardiopulmonary Therapist I is a new graduate and a person without the relevant internship/experience in Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Functions under close direct supervision and assistance of the Cardiopulmonary Therapist II, and as such, may not supervise aides, students, and volunteers. The incumbent may enter the position, but will be expected to gain the clinical experience, skills, and competency required for reclassification as a Cardiopulmonary Therapist II within one year from date of hire or transfer into the position. If ineligible for that reclassification, the incumbent will be terminated or may apply for another position in the hospital for which he/she is qualified. ACLS certification is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer into the position, as are the pertinent Defibrillation and Arrhythmia recognition and management competencies. Meets departmental specific required competencies.
