Primarily responsible for processing all surgical and cytological specimens according to the pathologist's specifications. Also responsible for maintaining the section according to regulatory agencies requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Logs in all surgical and cytological specimens.
Processes surgical specimens through various stages to completion.
Processes cytological specimens through various stages to completion.
Prepares different stains and performs special stains on tissues.
Assists in frozen section preparation.
Assists in bronchoscopies and fine needle aspirations.
Performs all quality control and instrument checks and maintains adequate records. Initiates corrective action when necessary.
Orders supplies for area without overstocking.
Orients and trains new employees in the section.
Participates in continuing education activities.
Maintains workflow in area based on volume.
Follows universal precautions and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.
Communicates in an effective and professional manner demonstrating respect for other health team members.
Complies with all hospital rules and regulations.
Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.
Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (when called), Code D (when called).
