The house surgeon shall be on site during his/her scheduled hours and shall be charged with performing the following duties and responsibilities that are the essence of the position.
Provide medical/surgical care in the hospital with appropriate supervision of house staff, medical students, nurse practitioners and physician assistants
Answer all emergency calls arising in the hospital during his/her shift.
Evaluate all in-patients as requested by the nursing staff or an attending staff physician or surgeon.
Evaluate all postoperative inpatients as requested by the nursing staff or private surgeon.
Perform surgical consultations and provide assistance for IV access for hospital patients as requested by staff physicians and in concert with on-call attending staff surgeons.
Provide surgical assistance as requested.
Respond to codes and provide airway assistance as needed.
Shall be licensed to practice in Maryland.
Shall have completed at least two (2) years postgraduate clinical training in surgery.
Be subject to the approval of the Board of Directors and the Medical Staff of the hospital for staff privileges.
