What You Will Do:

The University of Maryland Medical System is a 12-hospital system with academic, community and specialty medical services reaching every part of Maryland and beyond. UMMS is a national and regional referral center for trauma, cancer care, neurocare, cardiac care, women's and children's health and physical rehabilitation.

UMMC is seeking a Supplemental Medical Lab Scientist II (Rotating) in our Microbiology Lab 

About the Microbiology Lab:  We are a full service microbiology lab, utilizing molecular and Maldi-Tof technology, along with classical methodologies when appropriate.

As a Supplemental Medical Lab Scientist II you are responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of all laboratory functions including:

•  analyses on a variety of sample types, maintaining proper records and utilizing independent judgment to generate quality test results.

•  assist with development and modification of procedures and take action to correct observed risks to patient safety.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Proficient knowledge of clinical laboratory processes, analytical procedures, and various laboratory equipment including routine maintenance and calibration.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and appropriate certification by a nationally recognized program, e.g. ASCP or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum Two years of clinical laboratory experience in an accredited hospital or reference laboratory setting is also required.
