What You Will Do:

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) provides a full range of innovative health services to people throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic Region. It is the academic flagship of the University of Maryland Medical System and is one of the nation’s first teaching hospitals.

UMMC is seeking qualified, experienced Nursing Assistants to join its Supplemental Staffing Unit.

The Supplemental Staffing Unit offers an experienced Nursing Assistants the opportunity to practice in a number clinical specialties and settings, including Shock Trauma, Neurocare, Surgery, Medicine, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, and Oncology. Our staff supports every unit of the hospital by focusing on meeting changes in volume, acuity, and vacancies.

Responsibilities Include:

• Takes, records, and reports patient's vital signs on a scheduled basis. 
• Observes patient condition for signs/symptoms consistent with illness and reports observations about patient condition to the nurse assigned to the patient.
• Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in their daily, personal hygiene care.
• Responds to patient call-lights, as needed; changes bed linens, and keeps patients' room supplies replenished.
• Establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team. 
• Performs duties associated with basic patient care, such as picking-up blood, delivering specimen to laboratory, performing minor housekeeping and escorting patients when assigned by nursing staff.
• Performs treatments such as applying external urinary catheters, giving enemas, testing urine for presence of Glucose and Acetone, testing stool for occult blood, finger sticks etc. 

What You Need to Be Successful:

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant program
• State certification as a Nursing Assistant Certification
• Current CPR certification
• Six months of prior direct, patient care work experience in a health care facility is preferred
