University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is currently seeking a Senior Cardiac Sonographer!

Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and supervises the activities in the Echocardiography Lab. Assures quality patient care and efficient and effective work processes and procedures in collaboration with assigned medical staff and in accordance with UMMS policies and procedures.

  1. Educates and mentors a staff of Cardiac Sonographers and administrative staff assigned to Echocardiography Lab who conduct routine non-invasive diagnostic testing in accordance with departmental and Human Resources policies/procedures.
  2. Participates in hiring, evaluating work performance, and training of new staff.
  3. Coordinates the daily patient scheduling and prioritizing of patients in the echocardiography. Prioritizes diagnostic tests in Echocardiography. Supervises and/or trains technical staff in performing diagnostic echo examinations.
  4. Confers with Cardiology Director, Cardiology Operations Manager and Non-Invasive Supervisor regarding laboratory operation and the development, implementation, review and update of written policies, procedures, protocols, and operating and capital budgets to provide for optimum functioning of the labs.
  5. Assists Echo Lab’s Technical and Medical Director in developing quality assurance measures to ensure sonographers are achieving optimal use of equipment and therefore, optimal test performance.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, or equivalent.
  2. Registered as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or CCI credentialed through Cardiovascular Credentialing International 
  3. CPR certification is required.
  4. Five years of technical experience in Cardiac Sonography.
