What You Will Do:
Under general supervision, performs phlebotomy procedures at an advanced level, starts IV’s, collects blood samples by performing venipuncture or finger or heel-sticks on patients; performs arterial sticks; checks quality of blood specimen, and assumes responsibility for safety and comfort of patients following established procedures. Perform related patient care duties, as required. Collects blood from patients by performing venipuncture or finger-and-heel sticks for laboratory tests and for donations to the Blood Bank in accordance with established standards and practices/procedures, timely and effectively, as directed by the supervisor.
What You Need to Be Successful:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Completion of a recognized training program, such as courses provided through University Hospital, community colleges, United States Armed Forces with the attainment of certification as a Nursing Extender, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Corpsmen, or equivalent. Certification as a registered Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized Phlebotomy Society, such as, the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, is preferred.
