What You Will Do:
Senior Director, Media Relations & Corporate Communications
Reporting to the System VP of Media Relations & Corporate Communications, the Senior Director, Media Relations & Corporate Communications will oversee all day-to-day communications activities including media relations, issues/crisis management, executive communications, and internal communications/employee engagement communications across the entities currently comprising Dimensions Healthcare System. These entities include Prince George’s Hospital Center, Laurel Regional Hospital, the Bowie Health Campus, and the Family Health and Wellness Center at Cheverly.
In the summer of 2017, Dimensions Healthcare System is expected to formally become an affiliate of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). A core project of the affiliation includes the construction of a new academically centered regional medical center in Largo.
Collaborates with Senior Director, Marketing & Communications to assure strategic and tactical alignment in support of business objectives.
Leads strategic and functional communications to external and internal audiences during transformational organizational change.
Leadership of media relations function, including proactive story generation to promote patient care excellence to local and regional media.
Responsible for day-to-day guidance and organizational response for crisis communications, issues management and advancing/protecting reputation through earned media.
Serve as primary spokesperson for Dimensions Healthcare Systems and its member entities, working in concert with UMMS corporate leadership for message consistency. Establish and maintain relationships with key media to coordinate coverage and to improve communication. Lead incident command (HICS) Public Information Officer (PIO) function as needed for Dimensions entities as well as 24/7 media relations response capabilities.
Lead strategic internal (employee) communication strategy and execute using variety of tools and channels that support Dimensions’ internal stakeholders, increase employee engagement, and communicate with employees in a candid, timely and transparent manner. Oversee content generation and population of intranet sites, leadership communication channels, employee-focused publications and other internal tools and platforms.
Lead executive communications with internal and external audiences, and act as liaison as needed with key stakeholder groups.
Oversee implementation of and compliance with communications policies.
Collaborate with functional leads across the organization regarding aspects of media and internal/corporate communications.
Prepares and manages program budgets. Monitors revenue and expenditures and prepares variance reports.
Accurately identifies and plans for capital and operating budgets; anticipates changes that necessitate adjusting forecasts and allocation of funds.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Bachelor’s Degree required, with a concentration in journalism, communications, public relations or a business-related field highly preferred; Advanced degree (Master’s) preferred or cumulative experience as practitioner.
10-12 years’ experience creating and implementing comprehensive communications, media relations, and employee communications plans. Hospital experience a plus.
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a team of corporate communications professionals and leading a related function in a health care-focused organization
Proven track record of providing proactive leadership of the communications function in a highly complex organization with broad community visibility.
Demonstrated experience counseling large organizations on communications strategy through issues, crises and high-profile incidents and events.
Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups, including but not limited to public policy/government affairs staff and public figures.
Experience managing relationships, contracts and expenses with agencies, consultants and other support services.
Experience and established relationships with media.
