What You Will Do:

Stroke Unit- Registered Nurse III, Charge RN Needed!
Nights/7p-7a

The Clinical Nurse (RN) III is a charge/preceptor RN position. This position is a senior clinical leader. In this role you will have a unique opportunity to be a role model, change agent, resource, educator, and operational coordinator for the unit.

Responsibilities:

Electronic/Paper documentation;

  • Assures accurate and concise entry of patient care delivery along the continuum

  • Guides staff in documenting/entering data correctly in the medical record/EMR. as verified by chart review.

  • Completes required training on electronic documentation.  


Wound Care: 

  • Guides staff in wound management processes that promote healing and maintain structural integrity of the skin. 

  • Holds self and staff responsible to perform a comprehensive skin assessment of the patient including accurate use of Braden Scale to assess risk of skin breakdown.

  • Guides staff in identifying risk factors for impaired skin integrity.

  • Assures appropriate strategies and/or treatment measures to prevent skin deterioration are implemented.

  • Assures nutrition and wound care consultative services are obtained as indicated by findings.

Pain Management:

  • Intervenes, alleviates or reduces pain to a level of comfort acceptable to the patient.

  • Guides staff in pain management processes.

  • Holds self and staff accountable to screen the patient for pain on admission/initial visit and during on-going care activities.

  • Guides staff in identifying and implementing appropriate interventions to manage pain.

  • Completes annual competency for pain recognition and pain therapies- skill checklist on file.

Team Leadership:

  • Uses interpersonal and clinical skills to foster the concepts of team collaboration and team unity.

  • Develops communication skills to enhance networking with other clinical staff.

  • Delegates nursing tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff appropriate to skill level, competency and scope of role.

  • Assures completion of delegated tasks. 

  • Encourages and empowers the staff toward professional growth despite diversity and personal differences.

  • Uses multiple strategies toward organizational and/or unit change(s) for improvement.

  • Assists the staff toward improving their individual or collective performance and productivity areas for improvement. Enhances professional growth and organizational skills of team members.

Blood Glucose Monitoring (Accu-check):

  • Holds self and staff accountable for waived testing processes and patient care management based on results achieved and clinical findings.

  • Attends annual training for review and updates on blood glucose testing and monitoring equipment.

  • Guides staff in proper technique and skills required for obtaining accurate blood glucose results and documentation of findings.

  • Completes annual didactic and/or written testing with results kept on file.

  • Quality monitoring performance is assessed annually and/or as needed at intervals based on performance criteria.

Collection of Specimens:

  • Hold self and staff accountable to follow procedural guidelines and proper technique(s) to obtain bodily specimen collection for laboratory testing.

  • Completes annual didactic and/or written testing with results kept on file

Respect for individuals, Customer Service, Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Models excellence in customer service behaviors.   Holds staff accountable for responding to customer requirements.    Assumes lead role in the prevention of potential customer complaints.

  • Initiates service recovery processes and completes appropriate documentation in response to customer concerns.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic needs of the persons served.

  • Develops strategies for the use of hand-off communication to convey appropriate patient/clinical information.

  • Assumes administrative responsibility in absence of Patient Care Manager.

  • Provides vigilance in ensuring the safety of the clinical environment for patients, visitors, and other staff members.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, practice, and accountability for compliance with the TJC National Patient Safety Goals.

  • Guides staff in detecting, reporting, and taking action to avoid or correct safety risks. 

  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.  Monitors and reports suspected trends.

  • Oversees initiation of fall risk assessment and implementation of fall prevention strategies.

  • Demonstrates and assures safe lifting techniques and body mechanics in daily practice.      

Cost Effectiveness:

  • Designs and leads opportunities to improve patient flow, reduce length of stay, and prevent care delays.

  • Oversee operations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize charge capture when delivering patient care.

  • Influences staff to effectively set priorities and demonstrate time management skills.

  • Facilitates the input of efficient and balanced self-scheduling data in compliance with staffing targets and guidelines.

  • Identifies and recommends new technologies that reduce the cost of care or improve patient outcomes.

Education & Research:

  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining and upgrading competency and clinical knowledge base related to role.

  • Identifies and addresses learning needs of self and fellow staff.

  • Attends required in-services. 

  • Completes written and/or computerized training.

  • Supports and guides participation in approved research projec



What You Need to Be Successful:

  1. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland is required.
  2. Current CPR card required.
  3. Certification in area of specialty preferred
  4. ACLS certification required
  5. Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  6.  BSN, or enrollment in a BSN program, preferred
  7. At least 2 years of nursing experience that includes recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting
