What You Will Do:

UM Midtown Campus is currently seeking a Psychiatric Crisis Evaluator for a part-time position with our Crisis team  . (LGPC, LGSW, or RN required) 

this is a Part-Time nights position: (7p-7a)


Job Summary:
  • The Psychiatric Crisis Worker responds to calls from the Emergency Room to provide clinical assessments for Psychiatric patients who are present in the Emergency Room.
  • Coordinates the admission procedure and ensures protocol is followed to include requirements for third party payors.
  • Assists in linking patients to other treatment programs, when patient is not appropriate for admission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Completes a thorough assessment of patient’s needs as a part of the screening process.
  1. Able to utilize different crisis response techniques dependent on individual patient needs for patients in crisis. Aware of patient safety concerns
  2. Demonstrates therapeutic principles in crisis intervention. Coordinates the admission process. Documents assessments and interventions appropriately and in a timely manner.
  3. Demonstrates an ability to effectively deal with a variety of disorders and age groups. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic approach with patients and uses praise and other reinforcements to encourage appropriate behavior.
  4. Demonstrates understanding of Maryland legal procedures involving Involuntary Commitment Statutes.
  5. Reports any changes in patient’s condition/behavior to appropriate personnel and attempts to understand patient needs and responds accordingly.
  6. Acts as liaison between the Unit, Emergency Room, and other units to outside referral sources.
  7. Demonstrates high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even-temperament when dealing with patients, uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgments and a professional attitude when relating to patient, families and visitors at all times.
  8. Ensures necessary documents and notifications occur in compliance with third party payor requirements.


What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Education: Masters Degree in psychology, social work or a related mental health field
OR
  • Registered Nurse with psychiatric experience.
  • Experience: One year psychiatric crisis intervention experience.
